Karen Bonanno, SHRM-SCP
Karen Bonanno, SHRM-SCP is a long-time senior consultant with P•A•S Associates. Her family purchased the company from founder Holly Culhane on March 13, 2017. She serves as the president of P•A•S Associates and P•A•S Investigations and works side-by-side with the team of P•A•S professionals and consultants. In addition to her consultant role, Karen has assumed strategic leadership, planning, and marketing duties for the firm.
Before joining P•A•S Associates in 2005, Karen spent more than two decades in human resources and environmental services as the Human Resources Specialist and Project Manager for a local environmental laboratory. In addition to working for P•A•S Associates, Karen owns and manages Snelling Staffing, which provides a variety of labor resource services for local medical, industrial, agricultural, and environmental businesses. Her experience in working with decision makers in a variety of industries has enabled Karen to help businesses improve effectiveness through proper management of human resources. Karen’s expertise is in wage and hour issues, leave of absence policies, compensation studies/surveys, classification reviews, job descriptions, employee policy handbooks, recruiting, background checks, and general compliance.
Karen is a Senior Certified Professional through the Society for Human Resources Management and holds a certification in Human Resources Management from California State University Bakersfield. She is a member of the national and local chapters of the Society for Human Resource Management and currently serves on the board of directors for the Bakersfield Breakfast Rotary Foundation. Karen is also the Vocational Director for the Bakersfield Breakfast Rotary and the Vice President of the NOR Chamber of Commerce. She actively supports the local Alzheimer’s Disease Association of Kern County, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church and, through P•A•S, supports local causes by committing time and donations each month to non-profits.
Holly Culhane, SPHR-CA, SHRM-SCP,PI, Consultant Emeritus, identified the need for human resource and organizational assistance for small- and medium-sized businesses when she created P•A•S Associates to meet those needs in 1987.
During Holly’s time as president, P•A•S grew to include hundreds of clients in 25+ states. It soon became known for partnering with businesses, non-profits, churches, and the government sector with the goals of helping deepen leadership effectiveness, facilitate growth, and enhance team effectiveness.
In her new role as Consultant Emeritus, Holly continues to assist P•A•S on an as-needed basis. She continues to provide high quality, interactive, and practical learning as a Blanchard Channel Partner, a Wiley Partner for Everything DiSC and Five Behaviors of a Cohesive Team, as well as a certified facilitator with TalentSmart for both levels of their Emotional Intelligence product. She especially loves the opportunity to delve deep into the leadership style of Jesus as servant and shepherd. She also enjoys facilitating Lead Like Jesus Leadership Encounters as a Lead Like Jesus Master Trainer and facilitating Ken Blanchard’s Servant Leadership program. Holly is a certified Lead Like Jesus coach, a certified DISC Biblical Behavioral Assessment facilitator.
Holly also serves as CEO and Founder of Presence Point, Inc., a non-profit organization focused on helping people live into their calling as shepherd leaders in their roles of parent, partner, pastor, business owner, supervisor, manager, and board member. She has a deep belief that shepherding is a universal Godly leadership principle – the foundation of her work with Presence Point. The shepherd leadership model she pioneered is deeply affecting the lives of those who participate in Presence Point Experience Workshops around the globe as they implement the concepts at work, home, and in their non-profits.
Additional roles include service as Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees for YFC/USA and as Board Development Chair for Evangelical Christian Credit Union. Holly is an active member of Valley Baptist Church, currently serving as the Promotional Strategist for the Global Leadership Summit for the Bakersfield area. She has served as Chair of the Greater Bakersfield Chamber of Commerce and of International Christian Ministries, and as a member of the Boards of the Rotary Club of Bakersfield and the Kern County Chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management.
Holly’s well-rounded business, community, and ministry efforts, as well as her practical, down-to-earth, caring and humorous facilitation style, make her a favorite of participants wherever she trains, speaks or facilitates. She truly considers it a privilege to serve others in this capacity and partner with them in both consulting and coaching relationships.
Human Resources Business Specialist
Ms. Shelly Smith, Human Resources Business Specialist, has worked in various HR roles for over the past fifteen years. Shelly received her Associates Degree in Legal Office Management from Morrison University. She currently generates P•A•S proposals and agreements and works directly with clients in the areas of invoicing, state-specific legislative updates, background checks, applicant testing coordination, and general HR assistance. Shelly volunteers with Bike Fest, a non-profit organization created to raise funds for local charities in Taft, California.
Tanya Hutson, SHRM-CP
Human Resources Specialist
Tanya Hutson, Human Resources Specialist, provides policy writing, handbook creation and revision, and related research. Tanya is a graduate of California State University, Bakersfield, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology, and has over twenty years of Health, Environment and Safety (HES) experience in the oil and gas industry. In her spare time, Tanya supports Downtown Elementary School and Bakersfield High School through various volunteer efforts and board positions. She also serves on the board of the La Cresta Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to the educational and emotional well-being of infants and young children and their families.
Anna Jaime, Training Coordinator, has over ten years of experience in the Administrative field, with eight of those years spent in both the public and private sector of the oil and gas industry. She has worked supporting executives as well as teams, ranging in number from 5 to over 100. In her current role with P•A•S, Anna assists in coordinating on- and off-site training, marketing, and provides in-office computer technical support, in addition to filling in whenever and wherever she is needed. Anna studied for her Associate’s Degree at Bakersfield College in the area of Political Science.
Elisa Martinez, SHRM-CP
Human Resources Specialist
Elisa Martinez, SHRM-CP serves as Human Resources Coordinator directly assisting P•A•S consultants providing general HR support. Elisa earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resources Management from California State University, Bakersfield (CSUB) in 2016 and previously completed an internship as a Corporate Recruitment Coordinator. Martinez served as the Web Developer for the CSUB Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) in 2016, is a member of Kern County SHRM, National SHRM, and the Kern County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
Maria Hernandez, Office Assistant, has over three years’ experience supporting offices in Farm Labor Contracting and Staffing services. In her current role, she answers all inbound calls, directing clients to the best person to serve them, maintains the filing system, and offers consistent support to the P•A•S team. Maria is also bilingual in English and Spanish which has served extremely well in assisting those who are seeking services in Spanish. Maria received a Certification for Risk and Safety Management from the Extended University program at California State University, Bakersfield. Ms. Hernandez is currently furthering her education in Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resources Management at DeVry University.
